Our Technology
Plant-based molecular pharming has the flexibility to produce biopharmaceutical products of interest within weeks rather than months or years, resulting in a faster process, lower cost of research and development for products, such as cosmetic raw materials, diagnostic test kit materials, including the complex therapeutics for cancer and infectious diseases.
This method exists upon the relationship found in nature between Agrobacterium and Nicotiana benthamiana, a plant native to Australia. Via transient expression, Agrobacterium inserts a DNA plasmid into N. benthamiana, and the plant’s ribosomes work to transcribe and translate the DNA into protein in just a few days, providing a food source specially for the bacteria.
We are able to exploit this machinery by inserting additional DNA we want to have expressed into that plasmid, and then using our purification method to extract out the protein.
